For readers new to your music, can you tell us a bit about yourselves and your sound?
We are really energetic and happy people when playing music and meeting people at shows. Please don’t be intimidated because we tend to seem pretty intense to some people. We just want you to know that we are being ourselves and that you can be too!
How did you come up with the name Survival Kit? Is there a story behind it?
It took months and months of texting back and forth in a group chat. Survival Kit sums up what this is for us. It is the sole thing that gives us purpose and fulfillment in life. It truly is our Survival Kit. We feel like our music can be the same for a lot of people.
Your latest single Valedictorian was released about a month ago, how has the response to the song been?
It was pretty good actually! Lots of positive feedback all around. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on for the next release.
Is there a story behind the single? Or perhaps something that inspired its creation?
“Valedictorian,” is somewhat of a peek back in history for a brother of one of the members. Something I experienced firsthand in seeing, and though the situation dealt a ton of negativity into our atmosphere, I felt releasing that old sitch through the glory of song was the best thing we could do. Here’s to you, Red Dress.
Lastly, do you have any upcoming gigs? Or perhaps plans to write/release more music?
Both actually! We have a show with Secondhand Serenade and Ronnie of The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus on Tuesday in Knoxville, TN. Then we play with Maggie Schneider at The Masquerade November 25!
